1. I've been slowly chipping away at German/ #Bundeswehr history/strategy/doctrine. A scholar whose deep expertise I respect offered an interesting observation I hope to validate or debunk: The contemporary Bundeswehr's been overly polluted by US doctrine/culture, esp after Afgh.
2. In contrast, the Austrians, who have much less contact with the US military, have preserved a "purer" German doctrine/op art/etc. Not entirely sure what this would mean in real terms, if true, but it's an intriguing idea.
3. At the very least the idea tells me that the Austrian military, though tiny, merits attention. @Bundesheerbauer
4. The notion of being overly Americanized is consistent with French complaints. It seems that Afghanistan was a turning point for some militaries in terms of their assimilating US military institutional culture, doctrines, etc. And not necessarily for the better.
