We're all used to the fact that @BorisJohnson has failed utterly to handle the pandemic, but some stats still shock.
Here's mine today - China has recorded 3 deaths per million this year, South Korea 12.
The UK is on 970 per million.

My second is from @Sir_David_King of @IndependentSage, who said this morning that on top of the 70,000 deaths we've had we could expect another 30-40,000, in part due to the arrival of the new variant.

Worth repeating @Sir_David_King's words this morning:
'The story of this virus in Britain is of a Govt that has always acted too late. In the summer we had the chance to bring cases down so we could test, trace and isolate. This didn't happen.' /3

'What the Govt hasn't understood is that if you have a proper test and trace system operating through a well funded public health system we could have a separation of all those with the virus from the rest of us.' /4
'That's what we do when we advise other countries for example Ebola. We haven't managed to achieve that at all - just about the only country in the world that hasn't managed to achieve that.' /5
'We have gone down a path of delay in action - and the only point at which we act is when the Govt realise that hospitals are about to be overwhelmed.' /6
Somehow we're of the mind that what's happening here is happening elsewhere - that Covid UK is normal. It isn't - and the public need to know that far more clearly than they do. A job for the media and a job for @UKLabour and @Keir_Starmer. /7
