Today I’m sharing my experience with stripe payment gateway for my saas product as an Indie hacker.

Until now, I made $40k+ internationally & on the way to more.

In December 2019, I start building my first SAAS idea as MVP.

The main task to collect money internationally. So, I get to know most of the SAAS products using Stripe.

I explore stripe and seems so developers-friendly.

I forgot that I’m living in INDIA. “Stripe is not available in your country” this message was showing on website.

I decided to use stripe only because of trust, people trust the stripe simplicity and easy integration with the system.

I just subscribed to get a notification when stripe will be available in India. And, in meantime, I start developing the product.

After 15 days, I got an invitation email to use stripe in private beta and I start using the stripe beta version on the production.

There are some things stripe India asked me to open an account.

- IEC certificate
- Bank account for payouts
- Pan card
- GST No. (optional)

You don’t need to register a company to make money internationally in the starting phase.

Just start a business, get money into saving accounts, and file ITR on time.

If your business idea validated & making good money then invest to get a GST Number.

So, finally, stripe hooks setup, On a new subscription my code updating users subscription on my DB.

Problem: You can't charge Indian users in USD & International users in INR.

Solved: Using geolocation API. if the user from India then shows INR pricing otherwise in USD.

Stripe is partnered with Standard charted bank to do all the transactions. So, whenever you got the payout bank sends you an Advice form to your registered email.

You don't have to pay GST on a USD transaction. Just file GST on INR transactions.
