One long and final message from me. I have worked on and off in ID diagnostics for years. I helped develop the EU H5N1 PCR diagnostic and had several funded rapid diagnostics projects. 1/n
No ID diagnostic can be used as a rule out test in asymptomatic people. If I get a negative HIV test it means I don’t have on that day. If I go out and have unprotected sex that day I can’t pass on HIV but can sure as hell catch it
Any test. Whether it’s PCR or LFD when used on asymptomatic people can’t be used as a rule out test. Only to find hidden infections. It can rule out if you are symptomatic and it’s negative. As it means your disease is not caused by that infection for which you tested
Any asymptomatic testing program needs to be frequent and prolonged. And made clear that negative does not mean infection free. It means we didn’t find it today and take all necessary precautions to protect you and others
