Scott Morrison is to blame for dividing the nation when the second wave hit in Victoria. Before that, the whole country was in this pandemic together. It was Morrison who branded the outbreak the 'Victorian wave'. He is to blame for the division that followed. A thread👇
Of course, many media outlets were happy to assist Morrison in "branding it the Victorian wave". When they should have been calling Morrison out for this toxic, divisive politicisation of the pandemic, they were instead assisting him to promote his message.
I don't know where this came from as I only found the screen print. It records that Morrison specifically clarified that it was not a 'second wave' but a 'Victorian wave'. Thanks Scott!
Morrison also blamed this 'Victorian wave' on economic damage. See how clever he was here not only blaming Andrews for national economic problems (PM's responsibility), but also implying Andrews is responsible for aged care outbreaks (PM responsible for private aged care).
Morrison was supported in his divisive political and economic blame game by Frydenberg. Here is the Treasurer not only blaming Andrews for outbreak that 'didn't need to happen' (what outbreaks needs to happen?) but also blaming lockdowns (which saved lives) for economic damage.
Another key plank in Morrison's divisiveness over covid outbreak in Victoria, which had a terrible impact on Victorians, was his immediate finger pointing at Victoria when a case went over NSW border. The border Berejiklian had stubbornly refused to close. ALL VICTORIA'S FAULT!
Here we have a 3AW partisan sharing a partisan newspaper (I assume Murdoch media) saying the 'Melbourne virus' has spread to NSW.
You might remember the day Chris Reason from Channel 7 got absolutely roasted on here for calling is the 'Melbourne virus' - and ended up apologising. Isn't it interesting that a journalist feels the tag is worthy of an apology, but PM doesn't? And Morrison was never called out.
Of course we're not surprised Murdoch media jumped on the 'let's blame the virus on Labor government in Victoria' bandwagon. Because Murdoch is the propaganda arm of the Liberal Party #MurdochRoyalCommission
Not great to see that someone on ABC PM said this: 'The Victorian virus is making its way up the east coast'. Wow. Shocker.
I also wanted to point out that Nine's SMH did their bit to promote the idea that Victoria was at fault for the covid outbreak, and that Australia was certainly not all in this together.
So, rather than fight amongst ourselves about who to blame for the politicisation of the pandemic, breakdown in state relations, State of Origin covid 'NSW gold standard/Victoria leper colony' crap which has been so toxic this year, let's blame Morrison. The rot starts at the top
And lastly, let's remember there are 3 choices journalists make in relation to Morrison's divisiveness. They can promote it, they can fail to criticise it thereby silently condoning it, or they can call it out. I don't think I've seen one calling it out. Left up to us tweeps. End
