This afternoon I popped in to visit Waste Management’s kerbside team in Seaview.
It was a pleasure to spend some time with the team, and hear about the work they do.

I also want to acknowledge that there have been some really disappointing comments about Waste Management being “Chinese owned” – and some frankly racist comments plastered over social media, directed at Waste Management, and relayed to our contact centre staff...
This has caused some serious harm for people who are on the front line.
The people employed at all levels by Waste Management are local people. They live here, their kids go to school here, and they are part of our community...

As Mayor, I want to be really clear: there is no place for racism and dog whistling in these conversations.
