/Neither pilots nor New Zealand are to blame for today's local infection in Taiwan. This is simply the result of the selfishness of a single person. The system in place for plane crew members is already sufficient if followed correctly;
/They have to take their temperature twice everyday, they're not allowed outside their hotel room during layovers, 5 days of quarantine for flight attendants, 3 days for pilots (it is shorter for pilots, because they don't come into contact with passengers),
/and once they are allowed outside, they are asked to wear face masks all the time and to avoid public places. What happened here is that a person broke the rules, didn't wear face mask, broke its quarantine and went to public places,
/and certainly got infected because he sneaked out of his hotel room during a layover. He is the only responsible, and it is wrong to blame it on the entire pilot community who has been under a lot of pressure, following strict rules for almost a year.
/For those who want pilots to do 14 days of quarantine after every flight, I hope you realize how absurd this is. With the current system, pilots are basically allowed to be outside 5 to 7 days a month, and that is already very difficult for their mental health.
/I also remind you that Taiwan's economy today rely almost entirely on exports, a lot of which is done through cargo planes. If a 14 days quarantine is imposed on pilots, Taiwanese airlines will simply collapse due to the shortage of pilots, and so will the economy.
I also can't understand all the comments insulting New Zealand, as if the country had anything to do with that ...
