I wasn’t going to post this photo because I don’t like it, but fuck it. This is bigger than one photo.
This is me, out and about this morning. You see me here with my rollator and my noise-cancelling headphones. What you don’t see is the tremendous amount of effort that went into even getting me to that point, and into keeping me generally upright and semi-functional.
On flare days like today, mobility aids and sensory tools are the only things allowing me to even make it out the front door. I’m so grateful to have access to them, as not all who would benefit from them do.
I’m posting this for two reasons - firstly to help normalise the use of mobility aids and sensory tools for everyone, not just people of a certain age or appearance.
Hopefully some day, being seen using these tools will not draw stares or looks of disapproval, particularly from the older generation.
Secondly, I’m posting this to celebrate, because I’m damn proud to still have made it out today, despite everything being against me.
Finally, I’d like to acknowledge the huge amount of support my wife @amberjay85 gives me every day. I don’t know what I would do without her.
To all the unofficial carers out there working behind the scenes to help people like me stay alive and functional, you are seen, and you are appreciated. Thank you.
