It is hard to conceive of a more obscene set of circumstances than this #claddingscandal. The corruption and rapaciousness of the building industry has been long-known, and #GrenfellInquiry is exposing it, but this particular issue is demonstrating the gov's collusion with them 2 https://twitter.com/abismith28/status/1341088003838586881
/ The industry has so much influence over a failing and distracted government that it can freely absolve itself of what amounts to a criminal act, and further, make its victims pay for it. And to cap it all, this government is trying to relax planning rules even further
/ Imagine that to be safe, you had to pay £5k per year and a bill of 10's of 1000's to remediate that criminal act. It's like BMW asking you to pay to replace a car the one they sold you explodes on ignition. Put yourself in that situation and feel the burning sense of injustice
/ This is what is happening to thousands of people and now some are starting to actually lose their homes because of it. The government does this whilst being fully aware that thousands of lives are actually at risk - it isn't just the money
/ Sometimes, an issue is so grotesque, so morally and literally corrupt, that it is like committing a murder in plain sight. If Grenfell was a benchmark for the loss of this country's decency, this is just illustration that it wasn't a one-off. And that they have no shame.
/ I would like to think that at some point in the future, this government and its friends will face real retribution but I find it hard to see. The opposition to them grows more cynically meek with every day. Where is Labour on this matter?
