Do you know how the estimation of #Leopard count is done? Thread
Status of leopard in 2018 in India is about 12852. Field, spatial & camera traps data is collected.
1. 51,337 leopard photographs from
camera traps were analysed.
2. In a 3D model, this photo will get superimposed
3. Leopard's spot pattern data will be extracted from the information on the image.
4. The recognition software compares this data with the database images, to recognize the individuals.
5. Then leopard photographs of adjoining sites &
within each landscape is compared.
This comparison is run several times to remove the duplicates.
7. After identifying the individual leopards,
a matrix of spatial capture history for each leopard is developed for each site.

So the whole process involves large amount of field data and technical analysis.
Based on 2018 count, India has recorded about 60% increase in the leopard population when compared to the 2014.
Central landscape supports more leopards followed by Western Ghats, Shivaliks+Ganga, North East Range.

In south, Karnataka ranks first followed by TN and Kerala.
