I'll be honest, I fancy myself a pretty active cop. Arrested a lot of people, earned a couple 2 tree awards, written and been on a good handful of search warrants, stopped a lot of vehicles, and been known to get out on a street stop or 3 in my career thus far.
After this year, and especially with the mayor's office going in dry on cops who make mistakes, I think it's time for the active cops to sit on our hands.
Yes it was a mistake, a horrible one optically, and I'm sure one that was debriefed on why it was bad and how to change it

up next time a situation like that occurs. But it was a mistake. At the district level we have very limited access to EM records. Usually unless you have a county connection or the LEADS name inquiry gives an address, sometimes all you have is info from a J Doe.
The video looks atrocious, and I'm not trying to detract from what Ms Young went through. But the mayor's office playing fuck fuck games with BWC footage and then placing blame back on the department is beyond fucking stupid.
I used to love to gather intel. Whether that was a dope boy on the street, a rival gang member, an arrestee, or one of the dozen citizen contacts I made, I used that to get search warrants done. Or target a vehicle. Or keep a closer eye on an individual to catch them slipping.
But now I'm kind of not thinking about what I can do at work, but more of what I have to do at work. Working an area, active patrolling, asking questions, debriefing arrestees, talking to people from problem areas are things I can do.
Answer calls and giving reports to victims
Answer calls and giving reports to victims
is what I have to do. And I will continue to do so.
I know there is a huge silent majority who back the blue and TMFMS, I'm not asking for those people to comment on social media with blue hearts and US flags.
I'm asking you to call your local reps.

Maybe that's your alderperson, a judge, a state's attorney, or maybe its Lord Lori herself. Get involved in policy making beyond just voting. Make your concerns heard, because me risking my freedom, finances, and family isn't really worth it anymore.
Chicago will get way worse before it gets better. I just don't know how to care more about Chicago and her people than I do myself and my own anymore.
The city is heading in a direction to lose a LOT of good cops. I know every one of them on that bad search warrant and none of them would have purposely done that.
But the city will lose good police like that, not through retirements or officers moving to other depts,

But through things like lack of quality candidates or people even wanting to take the test.
But I feel even more so from good cops saying "fuck it" and parking in the hole and staying there till the radio beckons them.
To be honest, that's what the smart ones will do.
I might.
