In my short few years of being a devout member I’ve noticed the misconception/misinterpretation of these 3 crucial topics.
Culturally we put our false idea of “humility” above all other virtues.
In so doing, we subconsciously limit our own capacities.

We fear pride MORE than we love humility.
We fear pride so greatly that we see confidence as evil and wrong (which is not true).
To understand pride, we need to better understand TRUE humility.

The Church definition of humility is as follows:
Humility is NOT repetitive self-deprecation.
It is NOT a dismissal of our own strengths/talents.
It is NOT the dwelling on our weakness.
Conversely,
Humility IS knowing our own potential.
Humility IS acknowledging the strengths/talents we’ve been given.
It IS working on weakness
It is NOT a dismissal of our own strengths/talents.

Humility is a complete and utter dependence on God.
A total reliance on Jesus Christ and the grace of His Atonement.
An acknowledgment that ALL of my personal skills and earthly riches are gifts from Heaven.
Pride is the exact opposite

We think that pride is ANY slight mention of your own accomplishments/talents.
If I’m confident, I’m proud right?
WRONG!!

Putting one’s self above God and their fellow man:
Humility = Total dependence on God, complete recognition of His power in your life.
Pride = No dependence on God, solely crediting yourself for any good fortune.
Where does confidence come in?
Too often Confident and Proud are written off as synonymous

Confidence is knowing your present and future are in your own control. Knowing your divine heritage and divine potential.
Belief that you can do ALL things.
You CAN be proud and confident
(Which is how we present it as members)
OR
You can (should) be HUMBLE and Confident

Moses is a great example of Confident Humility.
When confronted by Satan he speaks CONFIDENTLY of his divine heritage and divine potential, while humbly recognizing where his power comes from.

I can confidently say “I know I can be the top salesman in my office”.
The statement is only proud if I don’t recognize my goal ONLY happens through Gods grace and my own diligence.
If I reach that goal and fail to express gratitude, then I’ve BECOME proud.

We need confidence to progress.
Confidence is not a sin.
Confidence and humility are not mutually exclusive.
In their proper form they’re codependent.
One is impossible without the other.

If I’m confident without humility, I’m not allowing God to direct my ship.
If I’m humble but lack confidence, my ship can’t move forward.
“I CAN DO ALL THINGS THROUGH CHRIST WHO STRENGTHENETH ME”
We do the act but it’s not our strength
Christ gives strength but not the action
