Yeah... so after taking a weekend break from digesting any news for the sake of my own mental & emotional health, I’d just offer this brief comment in response to the increasing talk of revolt (which is totally warranted in my opinion)... 1/
Many imagine revolution as masses engaged in spontaneous uprising. While that’s a key part of it, sustained revolution is built on ppl organizing themselves to engage in active resistance while establishing modes of self-governance & ways to meet their basic needs at same time 2/
That’s why it requires both creativity & mass participation. One element of organized revolt can’t sustain w/o the others. Ppl have immediate concerns—hunger, housing, healthcare, etc—those needs have to be met in some way by the organized revolution for ppl to participate 3/
Likewise, direct service & mutual aid alone don’t address need to directly confront existing power structures which must be met w/ an organized power capable of directly challenging them. Organized power requires ability to self-govern, build coalitions, navigate conflict, etc 4/
Work of creating conditions needed to sustain revolution occurs during & b/w uprisings. Shouldn’t be assumed revolutionary activity only occurs when there’s riots. & must be understood what’s needed to build/sustain mass participation for length of time required to shift power 5/
There’s no question US government is utterly failing average Americans— thru sheer incompetence wherever it isn’t causing them deliberate harm. The ruling elite have made clear their contempt for the poor as well as their intention to use police to suppress any real dissent 6/
America is long overdue for a popular uprising. There’s a lot of reasons it’s a challenge to build here, not least of which is the pervasiveness of anti-Black racism & the US being situated as a global empire. But things are unlikely to change much here w/o some form of it. 7/
Also—popular uprising is not the same as Trump 
populismwhich is purely a white nationalist movement that serves the interests of the white elite—specifically Trump & those loyal to him. A popular uprising arises from & serves the interests of the working class & poor. 8/8
