Wonderful to see a focus on reducing inequities for the health of indigenous children across Australia & Aotearoa NZ, by the @TheRACP. Led by Dr Danny de Lore, Māori paediatrician (Ngāti Tuwharetoa) in Rotorua. Paediatricians I know care deeply about this, great leadership https://twitter.com/theracp/status/1339738188286316545
Specifically, the statements calls for physicians to:
1. learn the colonial history of your country
2. recognise the strength and resilience of Māori, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities
And /2
3. Understand how privilege and institutional racism operates within healthcare systems and be open to naming it.

There are obvs systems/structures that need improving, but it’s an encouraging call and couldn’t come fast enough. Every child deserves the best start possible.
