I have some free time, so I want to fire off a tweet thread about the effects of losing the number 1 overall pick and how I believe the #Jets should approach the HC search and QB decision.

I think losing out on the no. 1 pick makes the Jets a significantly less desirable...
...desination. Whereas the Jets were previously in the mix for top college HC candidates (e.g. Campbell/Fitz) as well as top coordinators (e.g. Saleh/Daboll), I think those options are off of the table.
I think the Jets' main selling point is that Joe Douglas can draft enough good players to surround the young QB.

Now, on the topic of a QB, I'm sure JD and the rest of the front office have strong opinions about whether or not the team should keep Darnold, but I doubt they...
...would force their views on potential HC candidates. I expect the Front Office to ask candidates about what they would do, and pick the candidate that most closely shares their vision.

Since Sam Darnold is statistically the worst starting QB in the NFL and...
...has no ties to the current front office. I highly doubt that any HC candidate (particularly an OC) would want to keep a Quarterback they did not choose, especially with several highly touted QB prospects in Fields/Wilson/Lance.

That said, it's entirely possible the Jets...
...the Jets keep Sam, but I think it's incredibly unlikely.

I also think missing out on Trevor Lawrence drastically changes the pool of candidate we can draw from. Instead of interviewing top candidates like Campbell/Fitz/Saleh/Bieniemy/Daboll, the Jets will probably choose...
...from a pool of Martindale/Eberflus/Caldwell. The "tier 1" candidates will probably have no interest in this team. For fans who want an "offensive mind," Joe Brady and Arthur Smith might still be in range. I think the Jets could also pursue some younger candidates who are...
...position coaches or pass/run game coordinators. Mike McDaniel, Mike LeFleur, Mike Kafka (basically all the Mikes) are all options. There's obviously a ton of inherent risk in picking these candidates, but no more than the risk in picking Joe Brady imo...
...Regarding Quarterbacks, I watch QBs for the Draft Szn podcast for #TOJ and I ranked the top 4 quarterbacks as follows: Trevor Lawrence, Justin Fields, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance. I have a massive gap between Lawrence and Fields, a medium sized gap between Fields and Wilson...
...and I believe there is a small gap between Wilson and Lance.

I think Fields and Lance fit the mold of player that this Front Office values: physically talented players who may be perceived by some as "raw." If I had to bet money on who the Jets pick, I think they would...
...pick Justin Fields with the second overall pick.

This is not only what I think the Jets will do, but it is also what I would do.
