If you want to know one of the root causes of the complex problems we have in this country, look no further than the way we economically value the important roles of childcare and education of children. Patriarchy once again.
Countless studies indicate that our lack of prioritizing child care and education, coupled with the child abuse pervasive in a society where 1 in 4 women are in poverty trying to raise their kids, directly correlates to higher rates of incarceration, mental illness and drug abuse
We can see in real time and in real life what happens to countries that do make the investment in these important areas - Nordic European countries for one, that's right Democratic Socialist. And they not only have lower rates in all of those indicators but better quality of life
What's most interesting is a century ago, early 20th century, these nations were among the poorest in the world with refugees fleeing here to avoid famine. Now, they have invested in caring, egalitarian economies that prioritize care for the young, education, old and environment.
