I’m always down to talk about journalism, but I think people assume a lot about folks who’ve had staff jobs.
My previous job, despite what it allowed me to cover/access as a young writer, caused emotional and mental trauma that has taken me pretty much all year to understand.

My true healing process is just beginning, despite being out of the newsroom for a year. The terms I had to come to before leaving are not the same terms I’ve come to today.
Much like a career in journalism itself, healing is non-linear and it is a fucking marathon—not a sprint.

Please respect that as part of the truth you may not want to hear when asking folks about their “path.”
