One side-effect of the pandemic is that I've had a woeful small number of Cobb salads this year. What's with me and Cobb salads? I'll explain. (Image here features a Cobb salad platter a family member made for me... and the family... last Xmas.)
First, Cobb salads are awesome so I shouldn't even have to explain myself. The true obsession with Cobb salads tho started in 2008 when I joined @UConn. We used to take all speakers of the Algebra seminar to a restaurant, and first time I went there, I ordered a Cobb (Exhibit A)
It was delicious. And So. Much. Protein. Love chicken, love eggs, love avocados - the eggs of vegetable world, who doesn't love fucking BACON! Perfect in every way. Next time we had a speaker over, went to the same place, ordered the same Cobb. And over and over and over again.
12 years later, and I have only had Cobb salads at the restaurant. The server didn't have to ask when we would go around the table and order food. And many others would join me and order a delicious Cobb too!
Unfortunately, the restaurant closed, so we found another place to take speakers... which has amazing Cobb salads as well!!! See Exhibit B.
Now I've become some sort of Cobb connoisseur, and have found some awful Cobb salads along the way, and also some gems. Featured in this tweet is a picture of a Cobb salad at a place in Schenectady NY where you can design your own (Cobb) salad. Plus good beer too to go with it.
This is called an Austin Cobb salad, which I had at DFW airport. So not great, because it was an airport salad, but surprisingly good for airport food. The bacon was subpar.
Speaking of airport Cobb... "What kind of fresh hell is this??" This is what passes for a Cobb at the Philadelphia airport. Not gonna lie, I loved it and hated it myself afterwards for loving it. Unconventional to say the least.
Speaking of rock bottom... bought this one at Logan airport just to take a pic of it. Sigh. It should be illegal to call this Cobb for heaven's sake.
Anyway, that's the story behind Cobb salads. I hope one day to meet you where we can share a great Cobb salad and talk some math!! Pictured: Cobbs and Bobby!
