BREAKING: Gov. Cooper’s E.O 183 allows private bars, private clubs, restaurants and hotels to sell mixed beverages to-go in the state of North Carolina beginning tonight at 5 p.m. through Jan. 31.
The order is an attempt to minimize transmission from too many people being in one place at the same time and spending time with people outside of one’s own household.
Identification must match the name either on the mixed-beverage container or a related receipt. Applicable law on how many drinks can be purchased still applies. If you are over 21 you may order one drink per person to go.
Multiple people in one household can order a drink, but they must all be separate purchasers and be present during the transaction.
Order does not require food to be purchased and beverages can be picked up for off-premise consumption as long as they are in a sealed container when leaving the permit holder’s property.
This also allows you to take unfinished beverages to-go when ending your dining experience, as long as they are in sealed containers.
Bars and restaurants may remain open past 10 p.m. for delivery and take-out services under the order. On-premise consumption cut-off time is still 9 p.m. and the 10 p.m. curfew is still in place, but establishments can serve and deliver to-go drinks until 2 a.m.
Violations of this order may result in a Class 2 misdemeanor.
