i getting real tired of y’all calling a character or show basic because it’s built off shonen tropes. if you reduce them to nothing but their trope obviously everything and everyone gonna seem the same. they’re all shonen for a reason. there’s a formula they follow.
but what makes each shonen anime good and worth a watch is the way they execute on those tropes, how they build their characters or premise into something more than the blueprint their predecessors laid out for them. each new gen borrows a lot from the prev generation sure
what makes shows like jjk and mha so well received is the way they’re constantly giving us new spins on the shonen tropes we know so well. the mangaka know what everyone is expecting from a shonen story. they were us once, reading these manga each week, seeing the same tropes
cause of that they understand the reactions to certain events, dialogue and character actions. and the new generation of jump mangaka, especially akutami and horikoshi, are amazing at baiting us into believing we know what’s coming and subverting those expectations
so please stop judging these new shonens as copies of old ones whenever they come out. and please, PLEASE stop using this as criticism because it’s the only thing you can think of using to bash a popular series. they have real flaws. go find them if you wanna be mad so bad.
