Tilak Dharan on forehead is having deep science than one can ever imagine. It is not just a symbol of Sanatan but also builds a lot of confidence of human actually. It is related to Tejas & Varchasv of a human.
Tilak Dharan - Kumkum
Kumkum should be adorned by both genders without any doubts. Kumkum has a special role in activating the Āgna Chakra. The right spot to apply Kumkum is space between the eyebrows known as Trikuti sthaana. This spot is one of the 3 psychic knots
It is called as Rudra Granthi, other 2 being Bhrama Granthi and Vishnu Granthi. Granthis are those psychic knots which are important in Kundalini awakening. Applying kumkum on the forehead has deep roots. Did you know why kumkum is Red Varnam only ?
The space on forehead is ruled by the Mesh rashi and is ruled by Lord Mangal. The adhipati of Mangal is none other than Shubramanya / Skanda / Shanmukha / Kartikeya the son of ShivShakti also called as SomaSkanda too. The 6 faced skanda is in raktha varna and mangal too.
The lalaata is hence adorned with Kumkuma. It gives us apaar Gnyaan by activation of 3rd eye during the spiritual awakening. Another important focus is , maa adhya shakti Lalitha Tripurasundari is in red color.

Red is symbol of Shakti., it improves ones varchasv - Vigor or Energy or say Absolute power. Red symbolizes the blood flow, the working of our naadis with the blood flow. Red is symbol of Shubh and incites Saubhagya in everyone's life.
The main ingredient is Turmeric in Kumkum. Turmeric has power to change a human's bhagya such is the power. Turmeric and Jaggery are called Swarna., an equivalent to Gold itself. Turmeric has power to push the negative I.e the Alakshmi and invite Shree in our lives.

With Anamika - Mental Peace & Aishwarya
Madhyama - Health & Ayuh will increase
Angushta - Shakti
Tarjhani - Bhukti & Mukti

Devata Kaaryas - Anaamika
Pitru Kaaryas - Madhyama
Rishi Kaaryas - kanishtika
Tantrik Karya - Tarjhani

People should be cautious while using the finger in kaaryas

**During kumkum puja / Pushpa / Akshat always exclude little, and index finger**
There are many ways of Tilak Dharan out of which Kumkuma is part of all types be it Tripundram or Urdhva Pundram, symbolizing the Shree Shakti. It is advised that only during Pitru karmas one should not wear Tilak, otherwise the person's forehead should never be empty.
Children especially should always have Tilak on their forehead. Their budhi vikaas, mano dhairya & sat chintan depends on the Tilak dhaaran. It helps the child go in right direction, choose good friends and also stay on path of Dharma. Tilak makes a human conscious of his Dharma
Lighting lamp/Starting a puja without Tilak dharan doesn't fructify well. An empty forehead attracts dusht shaktis & our mind wanders to various unwanted directions. To attract the power from mantras, yantra, tantras it is Turmeric based kumkum which has the attracting capacity
Women and girl child guests should always be applied kumkum when they leave our home. It is said they are sakshat Maa Lakshmi and should never be sent without kumkum and offering a fruit or cloth etc as per your affordability. But, atleast kumkuma is important while they leave
