Lot's in the Bill on geothermal, so a few quick points here. First, geothermal included in the 1 year PTC extension. This is a big deal, geothermal had been left out for years until 2020 and good to see it extended again.
A lot of stuff on the geothermal R&D front too. This in large part is an extension of the work from @lisamurkowski and @Sen_JoeManchin on the Advanced Geothermal Innovation Leadership Act (AGILE) from 2019. Lot's made it into the full bill. https://www.energy.senate.gov/2019/10/murkowski-manchin-introduce-hot-new-bill
The Bill provides resources for hydrothermal exploration, technology transfer from oil and gas, research for minerals coproduction, 2 NEW FORGE sites, and 4 public private demonstrations of key geothermal technologies.
The ongoing Utah FORGE site is the most exciting R&D project ever in geothermal, testing dozens of techniques and equipment. Originally authorized at $140m, FORGE authorization bumped to $295m in this bill with up to two new sites. https://utahforge.com/2018/06/14/u-gets-140m-grant-for-geothermal-research/
There is also authorization for 4 new demonstration sites of enhanced geothermal systems, specifically selected at locations that can be commercially viable with industry partners. This is key to making sure the major learnings from FORGE can get to market.
There is support for research into flexible geothermal and in reservoir energy storage, topics becoming more important as the grid becomes more dynamic. More on that topic here, from an ongoing collaboration between @fervoenergy and @JesseJenkins. https://twitter.com/TimMLatimer/status/1275457276338270209?s=20
Finally, the direction for the Office of Fossil Energy to focus on tech transfer from O&G is big. There is so much to learn from the O&G industry, and this initiative will be key to a just transition for the workforce.

Exciting times ahead for geothermal!
