It’s the thread no one asked for but is going to get tagged in, my top 10 graphic novels of 2020 for primary and above. Lots of great titles missed the list so shout out to Act, Dungeon critters, Twins, Venom double trouble, Usagi Yojimbo short stories and many more.
10- Primer- I received this thanks to secret Santa and just squeezed it in before making this list. Brilliant story that mixes emotional depth and fast paced action. Another hit from DC kids.
9- Class Act by @JerryCraft the follow up to new kid didn’t disappoint. Covering lots of important topics but dealing with them in a very sensitive and relatable manner the story is a great read. Plus the chapter pages are stunning.
8- Superman smashes the Klan by @geneluenyang This book is superb and makes sure it doesn’t hide away from lots of important messages. Not only is it a great super hero story but there are so many lessons to learn from it.
7- Donut the Destroyer by @sarahgraleyart This has been a hit in my class and it’s easy to see why. A great concept about how our choices dictate our actions, a brilliant follow up to Glitch.
6- Aster and the accidental magic, I mistakenly thought this was just a Hilda clone but I was so wrong. Full of heart and a brilliant universe it stands out superbly on its own. That being said perfect for fans of Hilda.
5- The Investigators by @johngreenart this has easily been the most popular book in my class since September. A funny and engaging story that has lots of humour to amuse both kids and adults alike.
4- Mr Wolfs Class Field Trip by @mrwolfcomics I love this series and somehow it just keeps getting better. Book 4 is full of heart and humour whilst delivering important lessons throughout, smash hit in my school and loved by all.
3- Snapdragon by @kaymlay This story is truly superb. Everyone who reads it adores it and it deserves all the praise it gets. Emotive, thrilling and practically perfect it’s a must for 5/6.
2- Lightfall- I only just managed to grab a copy of this but it was worth the wait. Fans of Amulet will love it but it stands so well on its own. A brilliant adventure story that looks set to create a truly epic saga.
1- When Stars are Scattered by @JamiesonV This book has blown people away and really raised awareness of how powerful the graphic novel format can be. If you haven’t read it make sure you do because words can’t do it justice.
