In his doctoral thesis, he argued re early Lab policy: ‘No theorist attempted in sufficient depth to reconcile the conflicting aspirations for home rule and a British socialist advance.’ That is the challenge but needs approaching less from theory than practical application.
Will answers emerge and be implemented? I don’t know any more than anyone. Will this enrich an impoverished debate? Possibly and certainly necessary. Are opponents worried by this development? Hell, yes.
