I want to tell a quick personal story about @rabois, mentorship and making bets. There are hundreds of people who can tell a similar story, but indulge me.
In 2010 I met @rabois at a small Square party right after he joined as COO. I was 20, running some small businesses I started and interning for @jtlonsdale at what would become Addepar.
Keith and I talked and debated for most of the party. My memory is that we focused on fraud loss and tradeoffs between flagging false positives and false negatives. He quickly offered to hire me to build out a risk team. At 20.
I didn’t join Square (mistake 1), but we became close friends. We spent many nights discussing ideas and companies he was investing in. Eventually he told me his idea for changing real estate: codename Homerun.
I loved the idea and Keith started introducing me to people he thought would be right to build with. He introduced me to legends like Ron Conway and young entrepreneurs like Sam Altman, Evan Moore and Ian Wong. Eventually he connected me with Eric Wu, Opendoor's CEO.
I was 23 years old when we started Opendoor. Many people talk about betting on a person's growth rate vs experience. Keith actually hires and invests this way. Countless nights where I'd pepper him with questions about everything broken in the company.
So I'll take this moment to thank @rabois for betting on me and so many others at Opendoor. It's still very early for the company and each of us at it, and I'm excited for a lifetime working on important problems together.
