Real talk. What types of places in tech are best for black people who wish to bring their whole selves to work? For me, that means many things but one of those things is a deep concern about racial social justice.
I used to think places like Google were clueless but ultimately meant well. I have always been low-key skeptical about whether the actions would really match the rhetoric but the stuff with @timnitGebru really got me like đź‘€. Are Facebook, Apple, Amazon like this too?
Ironically, people like @timnitGebru being at places like Google is what had me thinking I should keep an open mind and not make assumptions but it seems my skepticism was appropriate. I wouldn’t want to waste my time considering that path if there’s no real compatibility there.
Also I’ve been hearing some “all lives matter” bullshit from the ML community lately but I’m glad those people are speaking out! I want to know where people stand so I can know who I want to stand with.
