The Battle of Leuctra might have been fought in July 371 BCE, but that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t visit in January!

Last year, the @ASCSAthens explored the snowy site during a very dramatic #sunset! 🌅
Just up the slopes of Mt. Helicon, on the other side of Thespiae, lies the incredible sanctuary at the Valley of the Muses!

You might be used to seeing endless olive trees in the Greek summertime, but a grove covered in snow is something special!
Nearby, the hill marking ancient Eutresis offers a great vantage point to see snow covering the Boeotian Plain and the surrounding mountain ranges!

Described as notoriously hot & sunny during Hetty Goldman’s @Harvard excavations 100 years ago, winter offers something different!
As a country of mountains, you’re never as far from snow in Greece as you might think!

A winter trip to Arachova—Greece’s “Winter Mykonos” near Delphi—might make you think you’re somewhere much further north!
But I certainly don’t want you to get the wrong idea...

Even on a snowy winter day up in the mountains, you can often still go for a swim—you just have to make it down to the sea!
