I used to be an @GOP voter. I started life as an @TheDemocrats but as I grew older and worked in conservative environments later in life, my voting trended that way as well. Some of it was pure self-interest. It happened that my highest earning years coincided with Republican 1)
presidencies. I had also begun living my Christianity more openly and conservatively as well. Finally, I didn’t see that much difference between the parties. Still, it didn’t upset me that Obama won the way it did other Republicans I knew. It did upset me that they made racist 2)
comments and questioned his birthright. But I was living in the South now, and I chalked it up to long-running zeal for the “glory” of the Confederacy. Then I saw the movie “Game Change” on @HBO and read the book. I was appalled when I learned about the deep ignorance 3)
Sarah Palin had for the history of this nation. ( @NicolleDWallace you are one of my “sheroes” for calling B.S. so early in the game not only on Palin’s lack of intellect, but lack of character as well.) I thought at the time Palin was a “one off,” selected in a rushed 4)
vetting process that went horribly awry. I did not see her for the canary in the GOP coal mine that she was. Then came Trump. Because I knew so much about him from reading magazine interviews over the years, including on his many many business failures, I knew he 5)
was not capable by temperament, character, intellect or experience to lead this nation. And so I voted for Hillary Clinton, and slowly, after being a Twitter “resister,” went on to register as a Democrat and become a grassroots activist by invitation because of my Twitter 6)
activity. I read a quote in @washingtonpost today from a GA voter about the Jan 5th run-off elections for control of the Senate. The woman quoted thought that since Biden was elected to be our next President, GOP control of the Senate was a necessary check on the balance 7)
of power. It is reasonable for her to think this; our Founders did. But it is no longer true. Under the leadership of #MitchMcConnell , the Senate has become solely an object of obstruction for anything a Democrat wants to accomplish. It’s no longer about being a check 8)
on excessive Executive action. It is about being against ANYTHING Democrats want to do. That reduced pandemic relief check and reduced unemployment assistance people will receive? That is thanks to Mitch McConnell. The only reason you are getting it at all and at the last 9)
possible minute...he has been quoted as saying it is because Loeffler and Perdue were getting “hammered” on the #COVIDrelief package. So it is not because this aid is good for the citizenry, but because the GOP might lose its Senate power that McConnell finally caved after 10)
7 months of stalling the #HeroesAct put forward by Speaker Pelosi in May. And, while parts of the stimulus are well placed in their protections, the $900 Billion agreed to is LESS in total than McConnell’s first offer and far, far less in total than Dems had originally 11)
proposed. The package does provide much needed money for #COVID19 🦠 #vaccine distribution. But anyone who thinks Pfizer’s vaccine sat on the docks waiting to be shipped this week because of Team Trump “mismanagement” needs to think again about the timing of the two things: 12)
#Vaccine distribution and the #COVIDrelief package deal. The GOP has become a party that is literally playing with the lives of the citizens of this nation to get what it wants: whether that is people back to work to risk their lives in a pandemic by refusing to 13)
Implement public health safety measures, or dealing for dollars in life-saving vaccines...that is what the @GOP is now: a death cult that favors the wealthy few as of value, and the rest of us as cheap fodder to its desire for power and more money in the hands of a few 14)
than God himself could spend. So please, if you are a GA Republican or Independent who voted for Biden to rid this nation of Trump, thanks, but please vote again for @ReverendWarnock and Jon @ossoff . As long as McConnell controls the Senate, we are still a nation in peril.15)
P.S. Another reason I think Pfizer’s vaccine sat undelivered is because they developed independently of Trump’s “Warp Speed” funding and the Moderna vaccine, which had govt funding, was approved. Now it is being rolled out like candy by comparison. How many @GOP House and Senate
members invested in Moderna’s vaccine versus Pfizer’s? Did @KLoeffler and @Perduesenate ? I would want to know. @ajc @online_athens @MaconTelegraph @MNMSavannah
