For 3 years @bubjacks brought his absolute best to @FounderEquity and @digintent.

He’s on to his next adventure. I’m bummed, but incredibly excited to see what he does next.

When I talk to young people about how to launch their careers well, he’s my prototype. A couple lessons:
1) Volunteer for everything.

Most people are obsessed about what is and isn’t their job. But in most organizations there are constant gaps. More opportunities than people.

He was consistently raising his hand. Faster learning curve, more visibility.
2) Be the note taker.

He ALWAYS took notes and shared right away.

People think the note taker is a grunt role. But it incredibly strategic. You’re now the keeper of what was and wasn’t said. You have a reason to follow up with people many times your senior. You shape agendas.
3) Aggressively acquire knowledge.

He spent countless hours outside of work reading. Learning about diligence. How the best VCs think. What makes marketplaces work. Etc etc etc.

With a deliberate approach, you can develop the mental models of people with WAY more experience.
4) Own your platform.

After a couple small nudges, he took all the reading he was doing and turned it into a curated newsletter.

In less than a year he has several well known subscribers in the VC community and a network that most people his age would envy.

Hell, I envy it.
5) Have beginners mind.

Dude is smart. But also humble enough ask questions. To admit when he doesn’t know something. To subject himself to the mundane to learn a subject intimately.

Humility doesn’t just make you a nicer person. It’s actually a superpower at work.
If you’re young and want to put your career on a new trajectory, follow and model his behavior.

Congrats on the new role man. Your future is bright.

(P.S. We need a new associate. DM me if you’d like to talk!)
