Common tropes that are deadly to solidarity and building working class power:

If other workers (i.e. non-unionized) are being forced to work in unsafe conditions during COVID, why should you be different?

This is a surefire race to tbe bottom.
No, we must support any and all workers willing to resist reckless employers who put profit over people: whether in health care, nursing homes, food services, education!

And when powerful unions like #CTU resist, it benefits ALL workers. Any who are able to resist should!
Here's one: Stop whining so much!

People who have had little exposure to the racist, oppressive systems that are crushing the working class & poor (i.e. prison system, criminal justice, housing, health care, and don't forget urban education) cannot comprehend the inequality.
I come from privilege (North Shore of Chicago) and absolutely did not understand the depths of inequality in our city & world until I became a teacher.

The fight is NEVER over because the injustices are never over. What they call "whining" is a response to ongoing atrocities.
Or how about this one: Trust the experts.

Ok, this one is complicated cuz of the right-wing, anti-intellectialism/anti-science push. Why we must not get stuck in the black/white thinking.

We must follow the science AND powers that be sometimes warp science for political gain.
#CPS is not trustworthy. That's not a dig, that's just the history of this institution-They lied abt cutting special ed, they've hidden sex abuse scandals, one of our former CEOs is in jail, another left in disgrace. Politics drives decisions in schools, NOT education or science.
And another: Don't berate or shame people who have a different opinion.

In theory, that's important advice for organizing. BUT when it comes to collective action, when people within your workplace or org decide not to go along, it impacts the effectiveness of the action!
So when the conversation is about labor actions or boycotts, etc...your individual choice impacts the results. Those "different opinions" kill solidarity.

So trying to organize colllective action means my fate is directly tied to yours. Organizing takes on new meaning.
