We are daily put in situations where to do what we need to do to survive the day/year we strike a blow to the future. It is a kind of violence to be put into those situations. Choose my kid now, or my kid's at age 75?
I know this can feel like just how it is and how it's always been, but that's not true. It's not normal for a society to operate knowingly drawing down future possibilities.
Get to work driving an air polluting climate destroy gasoline powered vehicle to pay the rent? If there is no other way to get work then who wouldn't do it that?
A healthy society would have ways for workers to get to work that didn't destabilize the climate. Period. It wouldn't place its citizens in dozens of ethical dilemmas every day.
It is one of the many illusions/delusions of our current system, that you can't have 'right livelihood'.
One of the powers of #multisolving is that it transcends that apparent trap. We can make cycle ways and trains and move housing near work. You should be able to get work without dumping pollution into the atmosphere.
We can design the things people need to be durable and part of a circular economy.
We can meet the needs of people today without closing down options for people in the future. We just have to build the power to insist upon it.
