As long Trump, his propagandists and those who they have misled keep trying to undermine democracy by casting doubt in our election process, I’m going to keep countering it with factual information.

The states/district Trump lost can be lumped into three categories.
In 2016, Trump won 306 electoral votes. In 2020, he got 232. He lost these 74 electoral votes because he lost these places he won in 2016:

Pennsylvania (20)
Michigan (16)
Georgia (16)
Arizona (11)
Wisconsin (10)
Nebraska’s Second CD (1)
These five states and one district fall into three categories:

1) States Trump barely won in 2016 which have voted for Democrats in every other election since the 1980s.

2) States that have been trending toward Democrats for years.

3) District that has only gone blue rarely.
Trump won Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin by 77,744 votes in 2016. And to listen to Trump’s supporters talk, they seem to think he owned them.

But before Trump won PA by a mere 44,292 votes out of more than 6 million cast in 2016, the state hadn’t gone red since 1988.
Before Trump won Michigan by an extremely narrow 10,704 votes in 2016, Michigan out of nearly 4.8 million votes cast, Michigan had also not gone red in a Presidential election since 1988.
And in 2016, Trump won Wisconsin by 22,748 votes out of nearly 3 million votes cast. And before he carried the state that year, Wisconsin had not voted for w Republican in a Presidential election since 1984.
In 2016, Trump won Independents in these three states that a Republican very narrowly carried for the first time in a generation.

In 2020, exit polls show us that Trump lost Independents in those states. Badly. And he lost the states. Which shouldn’t have been a surprise.
The next category are states that have been trending blue for some time, and not just in 2020.

Since Trump took office, Democrats flipped BOTH of Arizona’s US Senate seats and flipped a House seat to take the majority in Arizona’s US House delegation 5-4.
It probably didn’t help Trump either that he has been having a one-way nasty feud with a guy who is now deceased, the late Senator John McCain. Which has continued two years after his passing. And that his wife was compelled to publicly endorse and campaign for his opponent.
Since Trump took office, the GOP lost a US House seat in Georgia in 2018, the Georgia Gubernatorial contest was unusually close that same year and it lost another Georgia US House seat in 2020.

Georgia’s US House delegation is one seat away from being half GOP, half Democrat.
So this second category of states, the ones which Trump lost but which have been trending toward Democrats pose an interesting question for the conspiracists. If the 2020 Presidential election was “rigged” what about all the other elections? They’ve all trended in one direction.
And then there’s the third category - things that don’t happen outside of big landmark elections.

For the second time in the existence of the state of Nebraska, candidates from both parties were awarded electors. A Democrat actually won a piece of Nebraska.
A lot of Trump conspiracy types marvel that Biden got more votes in 2020 than Obama got in 2008 (it’s not that hard, guys. Many more people voted. Both Biden and Trump got a lot more votes).

When was the last time a Democrat won a piece of Nebraska? It happened in 2008.
