Star Wars sometimes over-relies on their OT characters it's true. It bothers me when it happens, because not all of us came into it because of those three movies.

If he shows up to take a child away to train, as we KNOW he is doing in this time period anyway, and he does so with the confidence that this is the beginning of a new Jedi order...

Grogu has a lot of anger and darkness in him, as Ahsoka said. And because Grogu doesn't flip to the dark side, Luke clearly finds a way to manage/help him with it.

By making him a confident knight now, it sets up his own failure of his student and his family to affect him so deeply that of course he would exile himself. This bridges the gap between ROTJ and TLJ, a gap that has only really been speculated about up until now. (4/5)
Plus by making him CGI, it tells me they don't plan on really bringing Luke back.
They just wanted to acknowledge this stage in his journey, which is relevant to Grogu's story. A Jedi knight putting together a training temple would, of course, be on the lookout for students(5/5)
