Of course people are going to buy video game consoles with their stimulus checks. If you're fucked financially, $600 doesn't change that whatsoever. But you could at least be financially fucked with an Xbox.
The point here is to anticipate the inevitable bad-faith luxury shaming that will come when this round of stimulus doesn't wind up helping to improve people's conditions at all

I think it's important to understand why luxury shaming happens. It's because if you can explain poverty as simply being the result of individual moral degeneracy or stupidity, it means society itself isn't responsible for their conditions.
