Starmer speech very damp squib - tired, behind the curve, tone deaf to Scotland, trapped in Gordon Brown talking points and Better Together attack lines - vague jam tomorrow constitutional obfuscation
Decision to keep using ‘separatist’ attack language is one Labour speech writers and strategists find irresistible - but I think it’s a mistake - politics of fear stuff - more about venting their frustration than winning (lost) hearts and minds
Labour’s federal offer coming too late and without clear contours or principles - Scottish party lacks people, ideas and vision - English party doesn’t respect its capacity or rate it’s leader and prospects - but back to Brown? Really?
Brown being positioned as ‘adviser’ is also telling - feels patronising - attempt to sidestep Leonard who’s a failed Corbynista - no younger choice with any visibility - but GB is yesterday’s VOW man - with diminished political capital in 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
