Folks, as a person who was published in the first issue of Furrlough and wrote a con report on Confurence 3… this never happened.

There may have been a period when you were unaware of who people were or what was going on, but the halcyon days of yore are pure nostalgic fiction. https://twitter.com/peacewolfactual/status/1340028813112127489
And I feel for you, I really do. And when someone else who’s five years younger says this three years from now, I’ll feel for them too. The tragic font of longing for an idealized past springs ever warm from the rocky present.

But it’s a lie. There were monsters. I knew them.
Here’s what I really believe:

There’s a lot of great stuff and good people right now. Don’t worship or idealize them — they’re people too. But hold on to that stuff and boost them.

What makes a fandom good is them and you. Making and sharing good stuff. For real nostalgia.
Because when you meet me and I list the names of those past monsters, the scourges of the fandom, the truth is you won’t recognize them.

Because nobody cares about people who hated. Nobody tried to save their hate. 30 years later, only the beloved of memory survived.
Sure, 30 years ago was fun, and there were great, GREAT people.

But we didn’t have @SonicFox, or @JibKodi or @UrsulaV. Furry fandom is SO GOOD now.

Don’t poison what you actually have for some made-up story of a thing that never existed. Build up what you love today!
