A kind reminder that resting is not only stopping doing what you do, resting can also be doing something different. Some ppl find switching off difficult. Some ppl have hyper-active minds, saying ‘rest’ won’t cut it...
There are real neurobiological differences in how we respond to our environment/stress and in our cerebral environments.
Try first and foremost regularly doing something soothing & relaxing. And try doing something that takes you out of your mind and into your body.
So do something to put a smile of your face (e.g. watch a funny movie), something that relaxes you (e.g. for me running hot water at the back of on my head) or that connect you to your body (e.g. moisturise slowly), that get your heart pumping (e.g. dance), soothing (e.g. a hug)
This will be infinitely more helpful than saying ‘rest’ which can make people who struggle with switching off feel even more anxious/helpless/stressed. A bit like saying ‘calm down!’ to someone already activated rarely does the trick.
