Btw the civil war in Syria will never end until Assad is removed. He is responsible for the majority of death and destruction in Syria. He is not the lesser evil, he is the source of evil and bloodshed. That entire family has been a curse on Syria
The US response to the crisis has been a disgrace. Putin boasts to have tested 200 weapons in Syria but the US can’t even set up no fly zones which would’ve saved countless lives and prevented so much displacement??
Also Assad is not a protector of a unified and secular Syria, he doesn’t “protect Christians.” He bombs them and destroys their churches. The Assad rule has been dependent on exploiting and furthering the ethnic and religious divides in Syrian society
