Instinctive conclusions about situations and persons is something that rarely finds logical explanation - how do you explain sometimes why you simply don't trust someone you just met?

But it shouldn't be brought to that realm, just act on it as much as it lies in your powers.
The evolutionary angle of humans has imbued in the brain of every person, the ability to evaluate situations and persons in a very short time and come to true conclusions about them - this was how the earliest men could survive the harsh environment.

Don't doubt it, trust.
Explaining what you've instinctively concluded, even to yourself, can slow you down in action, with heavy consequences.

Even the flip side such as conclusions based on faulty experiences of the past, instinct is still there to protect against it happening all over again.
