this is really really incredibly bad and wrong and while i fully agree w the sentiment behind it i do think it is VERY dangerous to be saying stuff like this
so the context for this, as i gather, is that we are having discourse about antisemitism among palestinians being manufactured by israel and then used as evidence for their barbarism by zionists. all true, and needs to be discussed
there is a frequent drive among PEI (progressive except israel) white jews to make palestinians (all muslims they perceive as arab, really) as well as black ppl prove they aren't antisemitic. i agree w op that this is deeply evil
like, i agree that the onus is on us as white jews to be accountable to the most direct victims of settler-colonial oppression before demanding total moral perfection from them. but i also don't think rhetoric like this is helpful to that end
the whole way antisemitism works is that ppl can't actually believe it exists. we're allowed to attain material comfort and benefit from others' oppression, which makes us a convenient scapegoat for when things go REALLY south for the ruling class
antisemitism isn't racism, and white jews are white, but it does exist within the social matrix of race. so while ppl like my family are the direct material beneficiaries of antiblackness as well as islamophobia...
...every so often, reactionary politics demands a sacrificial lamb, usually when the working class has started to attain class consciousness to an extent. & we're very available.
im in no way saying that people of color should overlook white jews' participation in racism for the sake of unity; part of how antisemitism is so insidious is that the more privileged elements, like my family, eagerly forge their own shackles for the material reward. thats on us
but when ppl like op deny the racialized existence or function of antisemitism completely, they make it unnecessarily difficult to integrate fighting antisemitism into an anti-racist politic. which is esp dangerous for more vulnerable elements of our community
the thing is, there's rly no point to this! it's actually quite easy to explain how antisemitism works in an elucidating way; theres no need to spend a ton of time centering white jews @ the expense of palestinians and/or black ppl
i might b wrong but i feel like the reason for talk like this is often secondhand embarrassment? like, I Must Distance Myself From My Racist Peers At Any Cost... which honestly isn't v cash money imo
there's also this weird principle underlying it that experiencing suffering/oppression makes u incapable of perpetrating it/benefiting from it. ik zionists make those the terms of the discourse, but we don't have to stoop 2 their level lol
anyway this was v rambly and prob full of holes & if any poc (esp black ppl, palestinians, & other indigenous ppl) have critiques i ofc welcome them, but i felt like i had to say smth
tl:dr - "conditional" doesn't at all mean "not real" or "less harmful" & ppl who r saying it is shld maybe think a lil harder b4 they post
