Tanya Plibersek is calling for “national leadership” in the wake of more than 900 diplomats being allowed into the country without entering hotel quarantine.
It comes as > 30,000 Australians remain stranded overseas. But about 900 foreign diplomats have entered the country

2. since March & have been allowed to quarantine at home. Scrutiny over arrangements for airline crews has intensified in the wake of the recent Sydney outbreak.
Ms Plibersek, shadow education minister, said there needed to be nationally consistent approach from the government.

3. “I really think we need the PM to lead here, she said.“The Federal Government is responsible for our borders & also responsible for getting Australians home from OS. They are responsible for keeping the virus out & it is pretty extraordinary to hear these numbers.”

4. Ms Plibersek said there needed to be “one uniform system” that is applied to managing every person entering the country.If there are exemptions to quarantine they must be clearly defined beforehand so we know why certain persons are exempt. Whether this is on medical grounds.

5. an individual is chronically ill & cannot be safely cared for in a quarantine & must be taken to a medihotel. A person may be permitted to quarantine at home provided they wear a GPS enabled wrist/ankle monitor & their whereabouts are randomly checked by police patrols.

In other countries they use home quarantine combined with GPS tracking bracelets/anklets, physical police/ADF welfare checks & phone welfare checks to ensure that people are isolating at home for 14 days. This is an alternative to hotel quarantine that is less costly for govs.
