Here’s the draw for the BOTTOM HALF (left) and the top quarter of the bottom half (right)
R128

(3) Roland Garros - Court Chautrier
vs
Lugano
•I was very tempted to include pics of old Chautrier, bc I just don’t like new Chautrier, but that’s what it is now. What do you think of the remodel?
•Another Swiss clay stadium, can you tell I like mountains + clay?
R128

Alianz Cloud - Next Gen Milan
vs
Rome - Campo Centrale
•Two strong Italian stadiums going head to head here. Do you like the Next Gen, indoor, no dubs aisles look? Or the Rome Masters center court that looks built for gladiators?
R128

Acapulco
vs
Binghamton CH
•Beachside big time stadium or quaint, quintessential US East Coast tennis club? Binghamton snuck in this tourney as the last direct acceptance. I have a soft spot for the “tennis club in old neighborhood” types
R128

Bengaluru CH
vs
Sopot CH
•I kinda really like the 3-courts-in-one-stadium look of Benga. One of those unique courts you see if you watch CHs
•Sopot is a beaut for a CH stadium. Sopot is on the Baltic Sea in northern Poland
R128

O2 - London
vs
Perugia CH
•The O2 hosted the ATP Tour Finals for 12 years and is the second largest tennis stadium in the world, behind Arthur Ashe Stadium

•Perugia is one of my fave CHs. Just look at those grass seats! And those rolling hills/mountains! Amazing Italian clay stadium
R128

Szczecin CH
vs
Estoril
•Two strong smaller-tournament contenders. Szczecin is yet another beautiful clay court CH in Poland, and it hosts a CH 125

•Estoril is on the Atlantic coast in Portugal and is one of the top ATP 250 stadiums in my view
R128

(LL) Wimbledon - Court 3
vs
Bastad
•Originally I had Wimb Court 2 in this spot, but upon further reflection, Court 3 has more history and is a nicer looking stadium, so it gets the LL spot. The “Graveyard of Champions” had to be included
•Bastad is a lovely clay ATP250 in Sweden, right on the Northern Sea
R128

Auckland
vs
(14) Halle
•This is a tough one. Auckland is maybe my personal favorite ATP250 stadium. But Halle is one of my favorite grass stadiums. I especially love the little stadium on the side of Halle’s Center Court.
R128

(11) Indian Wells - Court 1
vs
Mubadala - Abu Dhabi
•A top contender to win this tournament, what’s not to absolutely love about IW Court 1?
•But It’s a tough R1 opponent for the 11 seed, as Abu Dhabi knows how to stadium, which is evident in the stars the stadium attracts for its Mubadala exho each year
R128

Kitzbuhel
vs
Sofia Antipolis CH
•To me, Kitzbuhel is the best stadium in the Alps, which makes it one of the best stadiums in the world. What do you think?
•Sofia Antipolis’ stadium is set near Nice in the mountainous region of the French Riviera, near-ish Monte Carlo. It’s the @MouratoglouAcad’s main court
R128

Lima CH
vs
US Open - Court 17
•Lima is one of the coolest CH venues on the circuit imo, just meters from the pacific coast

•USO Court 17 is the Open’s fourth stadium court, and has a capacity of about 3,000
R128

Charleston
vs
Brisbane
•The premier green clay stadium in the world vs Pat Rafter Arena, home to one leg of the ATP Cup last year
R128

Liberec CH
vs
(WC) Kooyong
•Another lovely Czech clay CH vs the former site to the Australian Open. I included a pic of Kooyong as the AO host (on grass) and Kooyong now
R128

Basel
vs
Strasbourg
•Host of the ATP 500 and home of Roger Federer vs the International-level tournament on the WTA tour
R128

Nur Sultan
vs
Aptos CH
•Nur Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan, got an ATP 250 this year, for the first time
•Aptos is on the Pacific coast south of San Francisco, California
Marbella CH
vs
(6) Roland Garros - Court Lenglen
•The southern Spanish CH staple or Roland Garros’ second show court?
That was the Top Half of the Bottom Half of the draw. Up next, the last quarter of R1, which features staple seeds Arthur Ashe stadium and Margaret Court Arena.

Here’s the draw for last quarter of R1:
R128

(7) AO - Margaret Court Arena
vs
Newport
•Remember, vote for your fave stadium, not your favorite tournament, or your least fave person. Court Arena is the AO’s second show court.
•Newport was the original host of the US Open and still hosts America’s only grass tournament
R128

Tampere CH
vs
Orleans CH
•Tampere, Finland is the longest running CH on tour
•Orleans is a prestigious CH 125 in France
R128

Murcia CH
vs
Hobart
•Good battle here. Murcia is a cool, unique stadium which typifies CH arenas. Hobart is on the Tasmanian island in Australia and boasts a pretty decent view
R128

Newport Beach CH
vs
Madrid
•The CH 125 in the Los Angeles area or the Magic Box in central Spain?
R128

Punta del Este CH
vs
Bergamo CH
•CH clay or CH indoor HC? Uruguay vs Italy?
R128

Genoa CH
vs
Seville CH
•Genoa is one of the cornerstones of their Italian CH circuit
•Seville is home to pro tennis’ only yellow clay court
R128

Houston
vs
Barcelona
•Houston is one of my favorite courts. It’s home to the US Clay Court Championship every year

•Barcelona is an ATP 500 held after Monte Carlo and before Rome each year
R128

Beijing - Diamond Court
vs
(10) Rome - Campo Pietrangeli
•One of the favorites in this tournament, Pietrangeli is probably the most badass “small” court in the world
•But it’s a tough R1 draw, against the Beijing center court. One of two Beijing courts in the tourney (the Lotus Court was on display yesterday)
R128

(15) (WC) Santander - Spain Davis Cup venue
vs
Hamburg
•Another iconic Spanish Davis Cup venue makes the tournament. It’s up against the most unique roof of any stadium - Hamburg.
R128

Paris Bercy
vs
Monterrey
•Another good matchup here. Bercy is probably the premier indoor stadium in the world.

•Monterrey, although only host of a WTA International and a men’s CH, is way underrated
R128

Sydney
vs
Tokyo
•Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney was home to one leg of the ATP Cup in Jan
•Tokyo hosts an ATP 500 and, I think, the Olympics in 2021
R128

Australian Open - Court 1573
vs
(LL) Buenos Aires ATP
•Court 1573 is the fourth largest court at the AO, and largest non-arena
•Originally Segovia CH was in this spot, but upon further review, I decided to go with one of South America’s premier clay stadiums instead, host to an ATP 250
R128

Mouilleron le Captif CH
vs
Miami (Hard Rock Stadium)
•Miami’s former venue, Crandon Park, is also in the tourney. How do you guys like the Hard Rock look?

•Mouilleron is a French indoor staple on the CH tour
R128

Hua Hin
vs
Vienna
One of the cooler color schemes on the WTA vs the host of the ATP 500 in Thiem land
R128

Birmingham
vs
Delray Beach
Another brilliant grass venue vs the stadium that will open the 2021 season
R128

Pau CH
vs
US Open - Arthur Ashe Stadium
•Pau, France boasts one of the best CH arenas in the game. Could easily be an ATP arena.
•But it’s up against the largest tennis stadium in the world, the home to the US Open: named after the great one, Arthur Ashe stadium in all its glory
That’s it, you’ve made it to the end of Round 1! Thank you so much for participating and voting.
