Been wanting to make a thread of Reiner Braun for the longest time so here we go! Now that the anime onlys have seen Reiner’s perspective so get ready it’s quite a bit..
To start off Isayama hinted this a while back that Reiner had no idea what he was doing back then but ofc anime onlys started blaming him for everything once the betrayal happened but this recent episode explained his tragic past and they did a phenomenal job.
Second you can tell Reiner and Bertolt didn’t want to reveal themselves because they grew so close to everyone over the years. They realized the people of Paradis and Marley are the same however they had to keep moving forward with the plan.
Next in this scene right here Reiner wasn’t lying he does want to save humanity understand he is brainwashed and thinks he is the hero of his story. I’m glad Isayama fleshed this out because it made me fell in love with his character.
Last but not least they were only 12 years old wtf were they supposed to do? Reiner simply wanted to be a warrior for acceptance to his family and Marley as a whole. Yes the plan failed but Reiner still wanted to complete his task to get rid of the “devils”.
I hope this thread was helpful for at least the anime onlys and try to understand in Attack on titan there is always two sides of the story. The brilliance to that is what makes both Reiner and Eren such great characters.
