Sometimes I miss the life in college coaching. Tonight was one of those, had two former players in for a great night of holiday dinner.

Love all my former players and love seeing where they are.
Then, there’s things I don’t miss.

I am contacted a lot by parents, players, club coaches, HS coaches, college coaches, and recruiting agencies.
If you spam college coaches about players, and the player (or you as a coach) do not 1) reply or 2) reply back as you’re not interested, WHY would you waste anyone’s time?
Example: HS coach spans every college coach about a player.

Coach contacts player about interest.

Player responds saying they are only interested in “certain” level.

HS coach, do your research and do not spam coaches if that’s not what the player wants. Simple.
I tried to respond to EVERY email I got from recruits, coaches, and agencies while I was a college coach.

The amount I didn’t get replies back was too high to count (and that is FINE!).

The amount that said they weren’t interested in the level is a waste of time.
1) Do your research first (club/HS coach and recruiting agency).

2) Recruit do your research as well.

3) No research and wasting time is why coaches quit using agencies and don’t like emails from certain coaches.

It’s not that hard to be mindful of people’s time.
There are probably more coaches who DO NOT use massive recruiting agencies (BeRecruited, NCSA, CaptainU, etc.) for these very reasons. They are tired of their time being wasted.

Downside to that happening: kids who need those and use them right, lose opportunities.
