the reason that a bunch of countries just abstained or voted against that UN resolution against Nazis is because the resolution was put forth by Russia as part of a propaganda campaign against the Ukrainian government, which they claim is fascist.

The reason they claim this is the previous Ukrainian government was lead by Viktor Yanukovych, who was *pretty much* a Russian puppet. He was deposed after a popular revolution and exiled to Russia in 2014 after taking a huge Russian loan instead of becoming an EU associate.
Ukraine's actual government is an incredibly boring centrist party so broad it literally can't decide what it's ideology is. it's not *great*, but it's not fascist?

It also, uh, straight up invaded the Ukraine in 2014 in response to losing their puppet, annexing the Crimea to protect their Black Sea Fleet and holding an almost-certainly-rigged referendum to legitimize it.
Russia's current *thing* in internal propaganda is trying to cast all of its enemies as equivalent to fascist invaders of the Great Patriotic War. While the title makes it a no-brainer, the content is basically thinly veiled attacks on the Ukraine and the Baltic states.
Pretty much every country involved has talked about their reasoning for abstaining. I know you (rightly) don't trust US sources, but ffs, even the New Zealand government lead by their much-admired Labour party abstained too. Think on this for like two seconds!
This resolution is basically like founding a Society Against Kicking Puppies, but with the intent of using it to harass your neighbour Greg.
