I have some new friends so it might be worth sharing this piece I wrote a while back, making clear my position on masks. https://insidestory.org.au/weapons-of-mask-distraction/
They clearly work when Covid is present, but the evidence for public mask-wearing mandates is thin.

The risk with mask mandates is that many position them as a magic bullet solution, and the resulting controversy distracts from high-impact strategies that are proven to work - plus the unaddressed workplace drivers of infection and outbreaks.
And as a health promotion practitioner, if masks make you feel safer / help express your commitment to ending the outbreak, I'm fully supportive of that. Just learn how to use one correctly - particularly changing out masks as soon as they get damp! No yucky face-hankies pls.
