/5 My thoughts on how Congress addressed #paidleave tonight.
Final deal has continued #paidsickdays tax credits for businesses, but no guarantees for workers. Helping businesses in this time is important, but this isn't #paidleave workers can count on. https://www.speaker.gov/newsroom/121820-0?fbclid=IwAR1BXfQIRyhaaCtqY7T-1esCoiEYh394wbxOGWmJsTFNQUx_j_KP7GdNjQU

/5 I worry that working people with employers who are unwilling to provide #paidleave won't be able to quarantine or care for their children when they need to. This approach puts all power in employers' hands rather than FFCRA's obligation & reimbursement, which was win-win.
/5 This lessens the public health benefits of #paidsickdays (the 15K #COVID cases nationwide prevented per day) and the worker retention benefits of #paidleave for child care. Women, workers of color and low-wage workers are most in need and most at risk.
/5 The GOP insisted on this approach despite voters across party lines and businesses approving strongly of the FFCRA approach -- and, in fact, supported expansion. Ideology and intransigence trumped reason, science and economic value in this provision and others in this bill.
/5 The #BidenHarris administration must work with Democratic leadership in Congress to secure strong #paidsickdays and #paidleave as soon as possible -- for the rest of the #pandemic and permanently so we are never in this situation again.
