ok last thing i'm gonna say about this concept cause in the long run it really, really, doesn't matter but the event is near and dear to me so look
theres a core group of top players, fringe top players, grinders that perform well, and wannabes of the above
theres a core group of top players, fringe top players, grinders that perform well, and wannabes of the above
who only respect a certain type of commentary, one tailored to them that leans heavily on the minutiae of the game, and to give them credit, one that opens up the delicate beauty of the game that they appreciate so much and shares it with the viewer
these people are good (except the wannabes), and it's this core group that i find often has the biggest problem with my commy style, that someone who isnt "good" is acting as the mouthpiece for the game, and also someone who goofs
it is hard to goof with this group, typically

and i can recognize that, when you build out an event's commentary you always want to strike a balance, for LACS3 i got
- my funny friends
- funny content creator gang (allston)
- passionate socal grinders (v$ mist vince)
- high level (squid cdk ft raptor, toph and zhu ft leff)

and you can see what I value and skew towards here, but that's not to say it's a fuckaround fest, i also believe the "FUNNY" gang to also have a passion and a love for the game with a history of competing and knowledge, and also the "non funny" people can be pretty hilarious
so my philosophy in my own commentary emerges in my choices, both of which need to do the following
- reducing bias
- acknowledge and digest complexity
- get excited when appropriate
- contextualizing stakes and narrative
- goof and making jokes
been trying really hard at this!

and when the earlier mentioned core group is upset that the commentary isn't molded to their exact liking, they use the voice they've acquired through their skill in the game to get angry, and that is enough of a lawnmower pull to start the SMASH TWITTER DAILY DRAMA CYCLE
and I just want to formally say to this group, if you are in it or not,
I am likely not for you, and I am trying hard not to tell you to eat my ass when you are annoying on twitter
BUT i will always have a conversation about the craft of commentary, public or private

if that's something you genuinely want
if you just want to rabble and roast and get mad and send tweet, that's fine too, just own that, don't say you're trying to make things better, don't say this is forward momentum
just own that you are mad and want to dunk, i do that too

cause if dawson says OH MAN ANOTHER PEACH, then talks about how sick peach is, maybe the problem isn't him, it's you being unable to parse context and tone
anyway door is always open to talk about commentary for real
XOXOXO peach sucks lmfao
KIDDING
