real talk on kazuma.
i’m liking and understanding kazuma’s motivations a lot more during this reread. before, it was easy to gloss over kazuma and sort of take him and his actions at face value as i was flying through noragami for the first time.
but this time i’m realizing that a lot of why kazuma does what he does is because he feels immense pressure to be veena’s perfect guide. because he’s guilty about having “failed” her when yato slayed the ma clan.
and because he feels like he failed her again when so many of her shinki were slayed by the ayakashi. kazuma is a character who puts a lot of weight into his role — he IS a blessed vessel and a guide, and there isn’t much room he gives himself to be much else
he bases his whole world around those roles — and veena — whereas we seen yukine, another guide and blessed vessel, participating in activities outside of being a shinki (studying maths, gardening, etc.) kazuma doesn’t let himself do any of that. kazuma is just....choki
and after i sorted that out it then made sense that he would then do such drastic things like becoming a stray and using yato to rid himself of yukine....... because kazuma is a GUIDE. he serves gods. because when he hasn’t been an A+ guide, he’s hurt veena, and his clan
tldr kazuma is motivated by guilt and fear and his own past traumas. it’s evident when he kills tsuguha and then frantically searches for a blight to make sure he’s done the right thing. ugh and kazuma enters my top 5
