1: After intensive negotiations this week, there is still no clarity whether an agreement for the future UK-EU relations will be reached or not.
2: The European Parliament‘s Conference of Presidents expressed its readiness to organise an extraordinary plenary session for Parliament's consent, provided that an agreement is reached by midnight on Sunday 20 Dec.
3: We have just learned that there will be no agreement today. Therefore, the European Parliament will not be in a position to grant consent to an agreement this year.
4: I am convening an extraordinary meeting of the European Parliament‘s UK Coordination Group tomorrow morning at 9:45 to assess the situation and discuss the next steps.
